Heather Stage is an equine specialist certified through Equilateral™, the Equine-Assisted EMDR Protocol. She joined the Marley’s Mission therapy team in January of 2015.
Born and raised in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, Heather has chosen to raise her family in Northeast PA and is married and mother to 3 sons. Heather has been a horse lover her entire life, beginning riding lessons at the age of 10 and spending most weekends at the barn helping with whatever needed to be done. As a teen, she was involved in showing in local NPHA shows, competing in English equitation, hunters and jumpers, and was also an active member of the United State Pony Club, Inc. She currently cares for 4 horses at her small farm in Dalton and trail rides her Percheron/Quarter horse cross, Jasmine.
The barn has always been Heather’s place to relax, unwind and feel whole and grounded, so pursuing a career in equine assisted psychotherapy was a natural fit. When a close friend took his own life after struggling to cope with military-related post-traumatic stress, Heather turned to horses to find a way to help other veterans who did not feel traditional therapy was a fit for them. She is Equine Specialist and a founding member of Equines For Freedom, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide equine-assisted PTSD treatment to current and former U.S. service members, regardless of the source of trauma or their characterization of service, at no charge to the service member.
