Melanie Nelson is a licensed social worker for the state of Pennsylvania. She received her undergraduate degree in social work from Bloomsburg University and her master’s in social work from Marywood University. Melanie has been a practicing social worker in Pennsylvania for over fourteen years. Melanie has worked in several different areas of social work ranging from child welfare, foster care, children’s mental health, and hospital social work. “My passion has always been working with children.” Melanie has worked for Wayne County Children and Youth Services, Northeast Counseling Services in Honesdale, Northwest Human Services of NEPA, and Wayne Memorial Hospital throughout her career.
Born and raised in Jermyn, Pennsylvania, Melanie chose to raise her family in NEPA as well. Melanie is married and has two young daughters at home. Melanie has always been an animal lover as well as people lover and has spent her spare time volunteering and fostering for the Dessin Animal Shelter in Honesdale, along with having several pets at home. “I have always felt that animals are very therapeutic, which is why I am so excited to be able to have the opportunity to be part of Marley’s Mission.” Melanie is eager to learn more about the equine assisted therapy model and is anxious to continue to help children by utilizing animals in her work. Melanie has completed a grief and loss focused EAGALA workshop and will be taking the full EAGALA certification training within the next few months.
